Job Title: International UNIX/Applications Security Specialist

Reporting To: International Systems Security Manager

Overall Purpose:

To provide support to ensure that Our client International’s UNIX systems/Applications and technologies are secure and can withstand the most sophisticated attempts to breach their security.

Principal Job Responsibilities:

  1. To assist and advise the International Systems Security Manager in all security matters pertaining to all varieties of UNIX operating systems and Applications in use in Our client International.
  2. To maintain an awareness of the progress of security issues for all varieties of UNIX operating systems and Applications (Operating Systems), both from the point of view of the perpetrators and the systems owners/users.
  3. To evaluate and recommend solutions to the weaknesses mentioned above through the advancement of technology/software in order mitigate the risk of such security attacks.
  4. To ensure that the security defense mechanisms in Our client are state of the art and capable of resisting/reporting all security attacks.
  5. Liaise closely with appropriate MIS staff to ensure security standards are in place and maintained.
  6. To assist in the audit processes associated with UNIX systems and services.
  7. To liaise with other members of International Systems Security and assist with Security projects.
  8. To attend meetings with/in place of the International Systems Security Manager as required.
  9. Any duties deemed necessary by the International Systems Security Manager.

Qualifications and Experiences: (E = Essential; D = Desirable)

Strong oral and written communication skills E

5 years experience as a UNIX Database Administrator E

Strong trouble-shooting skills E

Programming / scripting skills E

Experience in Firewalls, Proxy servers, DNS, TCP/IP, encryption

and secure cards D

Degree in Computer Science / Telecommunications or equivalent D

Telecommunications background D
